Preparing for a missionary trip can be both stressful and incredibly exciting–especially if it is your first mission trip. As you prepare for your trip by packing, researching the culture you’ll be visiting, and getting any necessary vaccinations, don’t forget to prepare yourself spiritually. Let God’s Word sink in and remind you of the significance of your trip.

Below are some verses from Scripture to bless and encourage you as you prepare to travel. Study, memorize, or simply take joy in these Bible verses for mission trips.

MATTHEW 28:19-20 – THE GREAT COMMISSION
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This is arguably the most known and used Bible passage on missions. Your mission is obedience to the great commission that Jesus gave to his disciples just before his ascension to heaven. And he has promised to be with you as you go.

ROMANS 10:13-15 – YOUR BEAUTIFUL FEET
“For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

This passage sums up and defines just how important your missions trip is. How beautiful you are to those to whom you are sent.

1 CORINTHIANS 13:1-3 – NOTHING WITHOUT LOVE
“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.”

On a mission, it’s easy to get caught up in tasks and goals. It’s important to not forget why you are going on your missions trip to being with: to share the wonderful message of the love of God. This passage is a powerful reminder of what matters most.

LUKE 10:2 – THE PLENTIFUL HARVEST
“And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

If you start feeling your work doesn’t matter, this verse is a good reminder that your help is needed. Jesus Himself says there aren’t enough workers!

EPHESIANS 2:10 – GOD’S HANDIWORK
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

There’s no reason to fear that you won’t do a good job on your missions trip. God personally set up this good work especially for you. You are God’s perfect choice for the mission.

ROMANS 15:5-6 – SPIRIT OF UNITY
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Satan will do all he can to tear your missions trip apart. Each member of your team will be tested. Here, the apostle Paul reminds us to stay unified in Christ and not turn on each other.

PHILIPPIANS 2:14-15 – SHINE LIKE STARS
“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.”

In keeping a godly attitude on your mission, you and your team will “shine like stars” among the people you minister to.

GALATIANS 6:9 – PATIENCE FOR THE HARVEST
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

The Bible promises us that doing good isn’t always easy. Again: Satan hates this work you are doing. You will be tested hard.

So here’s one final bit of encouragement to bring with you. Memorize this verse for the toughest days of your mission trip.
